How in the heck did SK ever manage to write a novel this short?

Finally read this one over the weekend. It was the only SK I hadn't read. I started to read it when it first came out, picked it up in the airport book store on the way out of town on a business trip. Tried to read it at the hotel, realized it was about a little girl in awful danger and had to put it down. My own little girls were close to the same age and it just creeped me out too much contemplate it.

They are older now so when I saw a nice price on a new hardcove editionr, I decided to go for it.

This time I found it to be awesome.

It was so short probably because of the fact that there was only one character focused on, that being Patricia. It only really took place in the woods really, and in this book he really got straight to the point.
