Thumbs down What is your least favorite book you have ever read (non SK)?

What was you least favorite book you have read? I'm not looking for most disturbing, or least favorite SK book. I just want to know what book did you read that you had hoped would be better and once you were done and put it down you were like "Wow, theres a few hours of my life I'll never get back." Also please include why you felt this way.

For me, Odd Thomas. I had a some people on here recommend it and some people at work. I was reading and never really cared for the characters. I know that fiction is fiction but really? You want me to believe that Odd was able to move a dead body to the old strip joint and the chief would just quietly deal with it and include it in details without having to explain anything. Especially considering the chief was in the hospital recovering from gun shot wounds. *insert mental image of eyerolling here*

Off the top of the head, I'd have to go with the Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. I dunno how I ever finished that book. I know it's a classic, and Howard is a cool character, I just got sick of the author's hyper-capitalist ideal that the only true altruism is selfishness (or maybe I missed something, I was fifteen at the time). It probably deserves another read, and there's probably other books I've read that I've hated more, I just can't think of any others right now.

I heard some firms make Wall Street bankers fresh out of college read Ayn Rand so they don't feel bad about what they will be doing.

Theres 2. One i finished and 1 i didn't. both were mandatory for an English class.

The one i finished was Persuasion by Jane Austen. Oh. My. God. It was so boring. i hated all the characters, i hated the situations and i'm sorry, but Jane Austen cant write. She's like Tolkein. They wrote books because the the medium of film wasn't available to them. They weren't writers, they were screen writers/directors born in the wrong era.

The one i couldn't even finish was a James Bond book. I think i read a chapter before just throwing it across the room. I couldn't get into it. I cant tell you a reason but i just hated it from the first sentence.

I don't finish crappy books, so my answer would have to be "None."

    Anything written by James Patterson.

That guy actually makes me angry how bad his books are, those are the only books ever in my life that after finishing reading them I would hurl them across the room...

I think my least favorite was Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio (croooooak!! -- Really? Maybe I'm not "deep" enough or whatever...) -- That's the last time I trusted Oprah to recommend a book!

It would have to be something I had to read for college. Like Bryan, I won't finish a book that isn't doing it for me.

Given that, I'm guessing the absolute worst thing I've ever had to read all the way through was Jane Austins' Sense and Sensiblity.

I usually put a book down when I don't like it, never to return. My book list is too long to dawdle, and I'm not getting any younger.
But one book I did finish despite it's self was "Mr. Darcy, Vampire," by Amanda Grange.
It was soo awful I had to see how stupid the ending would be and by the Gods I was not disappointed. It was lame and laughable.
I felt like I needed to at least try to read one of the new books that "Mess with Classics" and see what all the fuss was about, well I'm over it and all the sparkly vampires and vegetarian werewolves can go straight to Hell... or where ever they go when they finally wuss out all together and croak.
Maybe they go to the Island of Misfit Monsters, who knows.

There are several actually ... but the first that comes to mind is 'Wicked' by Gregory Maguire ...

In an age of remakes and re-envisionings ... there just does not seem to be anyone one out there with any original ideas anymore. It's pretty sad when an author has to take the wonderful world that L. Frank Baum created over 100 years ago ... and completely ruin everything that made those stories classic. Avoid the Maguire books at all costs ... and read the original classics ... they are timeless.
