It is with some amusement that I read today of the BBC's "assessment" of the fledgling Led Zeppelin, following a radio audition 40 years ago.
They were variously described as "unsuitable for daytime radio", "specialist listening only", "derivative" and "unconvincing".
How relieved all of us old rockers must be that the band never took this criticism to heart, and went on to become probably the biggest rock band in the world throughout the 1970s. What the hell do radio executives know anyway?
