Dreamcatcher and IT

Hit dreamcatcher in my first reread through the cannon. Its out of order for me, just got a good deal on a new hardcover and didn't have anything else to read. I would have preferred to have waited a few more years and forgotten more of the details.

Anyway the parallel to IT is striking me this time, the extensive backstory of the childhood gang, told in flashback concurrently with the main action.

Anyone else notice this?

yeah, i think so...finished hearts in atlantis a day or two ago...there's some parallels there, too, as well as a connection to the movie, the village of the damned (1960) based on the midwich cuckoos by john wyndham, and that, in turn, seems to be connected to utd...which seems to suggest my theme song today should be....the toe bone's connected to the FOOT! bone....the foot bone's connected to....

The 2 stories are loosely connected. Later on Jonesy will go through Derry, and will find a sign about Pennywise, and it's signed but the members of the Losers club

Have to tell you that while I did enjoy Dream Catcher, at least to some extent, I think It is so much bigger, better and more interesting that comparison is hardly impossible for me. The two are slightly connected - like 'Salem's Lot and Wolves of the Calla or Needful Things and The Dark Half, but while I reread It maybe hundreds of times, I found Dreamcatcher merly OK.

Michal, agree completely, Dreamcatcher doesn't really compare to IT, I was just pointing to the similar use of flashbacks to describe the shared childhood experiences of the major adult characters.

But yeah, no real comparison.

many similarities yes. actually, i read Dreamcatcher and the acknolwedgment of "Pennywise lives" made me want to read It... so i read that one next

now, i've just finished them both back to back and i'm thinking of Insomnia next to keep with teh Derry theme

but Tommyknockers is in my possession...

Okay.I just finished reading Dreamcatcher , I saw the movie years ago and I
don't even remember if it was any good.But I read somewhere on the internet that
the story took place in the town of Derry(well,some of the story did
anyway.),and there was a character called Mr.Gray(supposedly in reference to the
aliens known as "grays").Me,I remembered reading "IT" (also takes place in
Derry) and that Pennywise calls himself(itself) Mr. Bob Gray .So before I read
Dreamcatcher,I had this idea that Pennywise was going to turn out to be Mr. Gray
in Dreamcatcher.My rational? Pennywise takes the form of movie monsters like
vampires ,werewolfs ,the mummy,and I think I recall something like the creature
from the black lagoon(not sure,don't take my word for it).Anyway,"It" takes the
form of what a person or persons is afraid of.Nowadays,with movies like "Alien"
and "The Thing" and so on having become our "Classic" horror movies ,and stuff
like Dracula or The Wolfman having lost most if not all their "Scarefactor".It
would make sense if Pennywise took the form of an alien .After reading
Dreamcatcher, my theory seems extremely
unlikely.I mean Pennywise couldn't be responsible for the crashed flying saucer
or the aliens at the crash site,but maybe the alien who's invaded the main
character's mind is "IT" in a weakened state taking advantage of the situation?
Also ,I haven't read Tommyknockers yet,but are they the same race of aliens as
in Dreamcatcher?Any thoughts would be helpful.(I have posted this else where,and was jeered by people who just want to gossip about the DT movie,so forgive me(or not)if you've read this before.)

from the description of the aliens in Tommyknockers, it is a whole different species (planet?) I can't really discuss the differences until you read the Tommyknockers.. I don't want to spoil it for you

Urgh, I hate this, I'm so far behind. I have read IT, I own Tommyknockers, and have just got dreamcatchers. I will never catch up. I was going to read desperation next (after the shining) but now I want to go back to Derry. This place is terrible for throwing spanners into your works.
