Thanks rewo. Nice to know I'm not the only one. I just started reading The Gunslinger and am really loving it, but I still think Insomnia is up there. I'd probably think it even more so if I knew all the references to The Dark Tower that I hear people speak off all the time. =)

Well, Insomnia was/is a different book in the context of DT7, but leave a re-read until you've finished DT IMO (at least, that's what I did) and I think you'll enjoy it just fine (and understand more of what Insomnia's about!), but you'll probably want to re-read several books ('Salems Lot, Black House etc) then anyway.

Just finished it last night. Honestly, I was a little disappointed in the ending. Just like in DT series, the Crimson King is a wimp. He turns into a giant catfish? Really? It only takes an earring to defeat him? So much for the ultimate bad guy with the power to destroy worlds. After that, when Ralph dies, it was a better ending for me. Knowing what happens with Patrick was important in reading this book; otherwise, I would have felt really cheated by the book .

you need to read the gunslinger series, it will explain alot, especially at the end of The Dark Tower VII. It explains the kid he is protecting in the arena drawing the picture of the dark tower, explains Ed Depeneu, and some other things, but you are right about the Catfish thing.

I have read the Gunslinger/DT series. That is one reason I was unhappy with the ending.

I read it some years ago, interesting. Especially the two bald short doctors that appear out of nowhere. That stood out for me forgot some of the other parts though.
