    Default Leatherheads SPOILER

I was fascinated by the leatherheads. What exactly were they, where were they. I'm sure a parallel universe, another dimension. I found it very interesting that they were portrayed as children - suggesting that the adults were not interested in our species, we only served as entertainment for the kids! I liked the ant analogy - ants in an ant farm seem oblivious to anyone watching them, as the residents of Chester Mills did at first. I would free the ants too if they made it clear to me that they were dying and begged for freedom! King never fails to intrigue me with the idea of parallel universes and other dimensions. Love it!

somehow the image of leather football helmets got screwed up and into my reading of udt. read it twice now. trying to remember why i thought leather helmets...maybe there was something about two inches into the story but i'll be darned if i can remember what it was now. guess i ought to give it another read.

maybe the kids had masks on? d'you ever do that as a kid? i liked to play as the lone ranger, one of those little black eye masks, galloping through town on my bike, seeing how miles i could rack up on the odometer.

I wondered, after reading UtD, if I'd end up having any qualms about putting "hits" out on the spiders I occassionally run into around the house (I can't even bring myself to purposely get close enough to 'em to kill em - brrr).

Turns out I'm still just fine w/it - they're just disgusting little insignificant(vaguely threatening) pests to me, and if it turns out that I'm even less than that to some advanced race out there in some universe somewhere, well...these are thoughts that I'm sure have been pondered by greater minds than mine, and anyway, waddaya gonna do? If I have to worry about negative Karma coming back to me for handing out little spider death sentances, I'm already totally screwed!

I would have liked to have read more about them; like if maybe Barbie had been pulled into their world for a little chat.

Spiders... or ants. There's this book by french writer Bernard Werber, "Empire of the Ants", a thriller where some of the main characters are... well, guess what. At some point in the novel, they are able to communicate with humans.

A nice and entertaining read which I recommend, especially for teenagers (you guys may find its translation at RandomHouse). And after that, well, you wonder for a while if ants and us couldn't be friends - or at least if we could ban the use of lawnmowers and magnifying glasses
