I've been greatly tempted to drive that way. I live in North Carolina again, so Maine is much closer then when I lived in Florida
I may try and go there this coming summer![]()
My sister and I are trying to plan a trip (need my picture taken in front of that gate!) this spring. Have to check out lots of stuff first. Make sure he's not here in Wisconsin for a book signing or something while we're out there! That would be a bummer. Want to see all the places mentioned in books, real or not! Would like tips from others who've made been there about what not to miss.
we thought about heading out that way this year. went west, instead. never been. but, looking at the map, any map of that general area, all that road congestion...guess if you've been on the road enough and you've seen the results of the way people drive...what's it like driving around that area? same as everywhere i s'pose, guy in the next lane, reading a book and changing lanes...and cell phones now!...yippee!...be great to get t-boned by some rising star busy text-messaging their aunt in sheboygan...maybe come in from the north?
I went up summer before last. I already had my plane tickets to see SK at the political fund-raiser that was nixed, so I flew up for the weekend anyway. I brought my parents, and we rented a car in Portland, drove up the coast and cut in to Bangor. It was our first trip to Maine, and I will definitely go back. My folks have been back since.
My dad and I are a long-standing, two-person, Stephen King book club. We have spent countless hours, our best hours, talking about his books. It was extremely cool to get into the settings of so many of our beloved stories. Plus, Maine is just long on atmosphere. (And Ms. Mod is a very nifty, real live human!)

Definately! We made the trip from Ireland in October 2005 and did a tour of New England...although we actually only spent 4 days in Maine the whole NE trip was inspired by my love of SK's books.
We spent a day in Bangor and saw Steve's house and visited Betts Bookstore, which has to be the best King dedicated bookstore on the planet. My husband bought me my first 1st edition there (Christine) and I've been hooked on building up my 1st edition collection since then.
New England, and Maine in particular, has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth and I hope to make it back there again one of these years...
I almost lived in Maine once...the USAF sent us there, well, actually just our furniture and household goods, then diverted us to Nebraska instead. It would have been awesome to have lived there for awhile! Am going to try to make it there with my sister...
lol back when i was in school my friend and i tried to convince my mom to take us there for spring break. it was all good until she realized the weather up there probably wouldn't be so nice in mid-march so we went to colonial Williamsburg instead, which was still great. I even got a first ed. Needful Things at this cute bookshop![]()
I will be visiting there this summer, with my very own tour guide--sknut70--and can't wait to meet the delightful Ms Mod!
It's going to be an adventure...hopefully not like one from an SK novel though.
I ain't really THAT brave!![]()
I'm very much looking forward to meeting you, too, Ally.![]()
