    Default 30th Anniversary Of Mini-series

Well the 30th anniversary of the 1979 Salem's Lot miniseries has come and gone. Too bad a special DVD edition was not released. What might a Salem's Lot 30th Anniversary DVD Set be like? Interviews with the cast then/now. Behind the scenes filming. What sort of Salem's Lot collectible might have been included? Perhaps a Mr. Barlow action figure? Would not that be frakkin cool! The DVD could come in a crate like the one that Barlow arrived town in. Sweeet! HEH-HEH-HEH.

I thought Salems lot was a movie not a mini series?

I saw one as a kid about 25 years ago or so and its really dated.

I think they should do a remake of Salem's lot

Check around here. The original was a mini series, also release under reduced running time as a standalone video/DVD.

+ has since been remade staring Rob Lowe (as a mini series).

Bit freaked to hear it's now 30 year old. Makes sense considering when book etc came out, but still freaky how quickly time passes....

I'm thinkin' David Soul just made it seem like a mini series.

I'm pretty sure when it was first released on video tape (before Blockbuster even came around, and dvd was still science fiction), they hacked & edited the ever lovin' snot out of it...which all thing considered, was much better for your average Volkswagon sized video cassete player back then.
That, and it made it into just "a movie"...and a pretty crappy one at that if memory serves
(I've rented some dvd's, & have gotten many from the library, that lead me to believe that todays advanced technology in the dvd player, must certainly have some anti-slime/snot/crust capability... for todays technology!)

The miniseries is still rerun once in a blue moon on the TNT network. Check your local listings!

Salem's Lot was remade for tv in 2004.

As for the 30th anniversary of the original, I wouldn't expect a dvd. This wasn't the sort of film that was made with special features in mind, so the chances of any previously unseen footage laying around is nil. At best you might get both versions of the gun scene onto one disc and the 2-3 clips that made it into the trailer but not the final movie.

Plus at least a couple of the main actors have since passed away, if I remember right.

I don't know why I have been thinking that David Soul, the original main character in the 1979 series was dead, but I just learned that he's now 66. Seems like yesterday that I watched Salem's Lot on TV as a mini-series. I liked the original more than the remake I should say. Vampires were quite scary.

i first watched this movie many years ago, when i was 7 or 8, which would have been 29 or 30 yrs. ago. anyway, it was the first horror movie i can remember watching, & it scared me so much, after that, i was officially afraid of the dark for the rest of my life, until a few years ago. i finally have gotten over my fear of the dark. i thought it was a movie, not a miniseries. i haven't watch the remake. i think most times remakes are no good, the originals are always better. i'm not sure if i read the book, i've read so many books before i was married, this one sounds familiar. i haven't read much since i've had children(no time!), but i'm going to have to catch up on my SK books, i miss them!

I watched the original mini-series when it first aired on CBS in November of 1979. It made an impression on me. I found a DVD of the entire broadcast version at a local video store last year and eagerly rented it. It's held up well, but truth be told it has aged somewhat. Mainly in the area of editing.

You know as we get older we complain about how the "younger" generation has the attention span of a gnat etc. The unspoken assertion is that we "older" people are somehow more wise and possess greater depth. But as I watched the 79 version it struck me that the Tobe Hooper version needed some slicing to speed things up. The scene with the gravedigger (played by Geoffrey Lewis) in the cemetery and when the one Glick brother comes to visit his other brother are two scenes that I actually found to be draggy and as a result not as suspenseful.

So despite the wisdom that comes from getting older I evidently have also been effected by this rapid-fire electronic world that we all live in. Speed it up man.

Nevertheless it's still held up fairly well and because of nostalgia it gets a free ride.

I forget the first time I saw Salem's Lot. I haven't watched it for a few years. I think the coolest thing about the movie was Barlow. So creepy. Yikes!
