So, last year I was lucky enough to receive a Kindle as a present from my girlfriend. After having it for the majority of a year, I can say I absolutely love it. When I first got it one of the first things I did was browse for some of my favorite titles on it to add them to my collection. The Eyes of the Dragon, both the first King book I ever read and still one of my favorites, was not available in a Kindle edition last year. However, about a month ago I looked and lo and behold, it had been added! I bought it, eager to both read it again and for the first time on the Kindle.
This is where it gets disappointing. I did not keep an exact count, but I noticed a large number of errors in the Kindle version. Spelling or grammatical errors - almost like the original document was scanned in by a computer using character recognition and had made mistakes. Very common was missing periods and commas, but some of the more frustrating ones were T's exchanged with F's - one of which ended up changing the meaning of an entire sentence. For example, when Flagg is recounting the story of another magician who had attempted shapeshifting, in the original text he said "Great magician or not, the man had been a fool." In the Kindle edition, it reads "Great magician or not, the man had been a tool."
Obviously this was pretty upsetting to me - both as a King fan and as a Kindle owner. I contacted Amazon.com and made them aware of the issues; they said they were going to go back to the publisher (Signet) with them and it was up to the publisher whether or not to make the corrections. I let them know about this about 3 weeks ago; there has been no change to the Kindle version as of yet.
I'm posting this here in the hopes that someone else with some sort of authority may see it and also complain - I would really like the work to be corrected, both for myself and future readers!
