I know this won't be popular but here goes:
I am a HUGE King fan. I have bookcases devoted to his books alone. I like some writings, some not so much. The Cell is one I say not so much. Pretty bad one. I spent $25.00 on Under The Dome and feel ripped off somewhat. The size did not matter as I have all versions of The Stand. Under The Dome felt like it was half there. Like maybe he rushed it along? Usually I read his books fast but this one took me 3 weeks. Which is very long for me. I never felt drawn into the book. Never cared for the characters ( which The Stand did ). The book jumped around alot. Hard to keep pace with it. And about 3/4 of the way in, that's when it became laughable. I won't tell the ending as it would be a spoiler. But suffice to say, I felt like asking WHAT was he drinking or thinking????? I made myself finish it. And the conclusion of what caused the dome, words escape me. Still aggravated and mad about the ending. Maybe it is time for him to retire? I would never say that as he is my favorite author of all time but I feel I wasted $25.00 that could have bought my son a good Christmas present. Good thing we all have his son, Joe Hill, to fall back on. I am kindly giving the book 2 stars. Actually feel it is worth 1 star. Maybe next time Mr. King it will be better. And longer doesn't equate better.
