    Unhappy Very disappointed with UTD

I know this won't be popular but here goes:

I am a HUGE King fan. I have bookcases devoted to his books alone. I like some writings, some not so much. The Cell is one I say not so much. Pretty bad one. I spent $25.00 on Under The Dome and feel ripped off somewhat. The size did not matter as I have all versions of The Stand. Under The Dome felt like it was half there. Like maybe he rushed it along? Usually I read his books fast but this one took me 3 weeks. Which is very long for me. I never felt drawn into the book. Never cared for the characters ( which The Stand did ). The book jumped around alot. Hard to keep pace with it. And about 3/4 of the way in, that's when it became laughable. I won't tell the ending as it would be a spoiler. But suffice to say, I felt like asking WHAT was he drinking or thinking????? I made myself finish it. And the conclusion of what caused the dome, words escape me. Still aggravated and mad about the ending. Maybe it is time for him to retire? I would never say that as he is my favorite author of all time but I feel I wasted $25.00 that could have bought my son a good Christmas present. Good thing we all have his son, Joe Hill, to fall back on. I am kindly giving the book 2 stars. Actually feel it is worth 1 star. Maybe next time Mr. King it will be better. And longer doesn't equate better.

Not every book is going to hit the mark with every reader. You're entitled to your opinion and to express it here even if it is negative. However, suggesting that it is time for him to retire because you didn't like the book may be a little much and I think the majority of his fans are in disagreement with that conclusion. Perhaps we can just agree that this one wasn't for you and although I'm sure Steve hopes you'll give him another try when his next book comes out, sometimes readers move on to other writers and if it's to Joe, then it's not a complete loss.

Sounds like you had some unrealistic expectations going in. Even the NYT critics who like to sneer at SK liked the book.

Constant Sycophants will come out of the walls soon to eat you.

    Hope yer wearing asbestos.

I have not finished it, so I am flame retardant. I just ain't enthralled, yet. I like it, but I don't put it on the same level as do other folks.

Um, I didn`t finish the book yet, am around page 600, and while I had a little difficulty getting in to it (and I blame you, Roland, for that, since I started reading it right after I`ve finished the DT books...and that was not a good idea, Roland & co don`t leave your mind that fast ), but now I am really enjoying it.

Of course you are entiteld to your own opinion, but retirement ?

You know, for instance, you get a job. Just an example.
Your boss doesn`t like you. Everybody else says you are faboulos, you are doing a great job and you yourself think so to...but the guy fires you anyway, cos he didn`t like your performance.

    You`re going to retire ?

    Didn`t think so.

    Welcome to the board.

Are you looking for a refund? Kinda like wearing the dress then taking it back. I don't think it works like that. I'll give you Joe Hill is an awesome writer though.

I liked it, but I could see how some would feel it was rushed. It was a quick pace, but built that way. Some will like it when others may not. The characters were not as well defined, true enough, because if they were the book would be four thousand pages. As far as the ending goes, its a interesting premise at the end if you really think about it. My wife and I have often had discussions about God and what he could be like, or what we could be like to him, and in a way this touched on some of what we have discussed many times. I liked it, but I could see how you didn't.

Saying he should retire is really stretching the imagination though and I'm afraid I couldn't even get my mind around that notion. I doubt King will retire until his end of days. Seeing how many of his old manuscripts are popping up I wouldn't doubt if he went out like tupoc, books coming from the grave.

I've spent money on lots ofbooksIendedupdisappointedin, meh - so it goes. I could understand if you didn't have the money to lose - but that's what libraries are for, right?
