I have read all of the Jack Reacher books, and he is one of my favorite literary characters. I got a kick out seeing him in this book. I would love to hear from Mr. King how this came about.

Dale Barbara is JK's version of Reacher.
Me too!
Ms. Mod - can you shed any light on this? Does Mr. King know Lee Child. I assume he would have to have Mr. Child's permission to use his character's name in his own book, wouldn't he?
No, he doesn't know him personally and he would not need permission to use the name as long as it isn't the same exact character as Lee Child created. There are many people who share the same name so it's not something that would be covered by copyright.
Oh, I see. Thanks for the info.
I'm listening to audiobook and I heard Jack Reacher and went back to make sure I heard correctly. Whether Mr. King meant Lee Child's character or not, it was cool hearing the name.
I also wanted to say I think Raul Esparza is really awesome as the narrator. I can't think of anyone that could have done a better job and I can't wait to get off work so I can jump in the car and resume the story. Raul's characterizations make me laugh out loud. He is really great. I did a web search but there is nothing out here on him except that he has done 2 other audio books besides this one. I'm going to get them! I hope to hear a lot more of this guy...especially doing Mr. King's books.
And this is an awesome book! Thanks Stephen King. You've made a long LONG time reader happy...again!

I'm listening to the book at the moment too - after having read it as soon as it came out! I think the narrator does a good job and it's good to listen because sometimes I read so fast I miss some bits.
I didn't know Raul Esparza did the audiobook. He's a very talented stage actor who has been doing a lot of great work in NYC over the past several years: Cabaret, The Normal Heart, Speed The Plow, The Homecoming, Company, Twelfth Night. I think he was on a TV show called Pushing Dasies too.
Loved the mention of Jack Reacher also! Great book SK!
