    Default just finished it.. and

i have some thought and questions.

Why didn't they go to the gear/combination structure?
Seemed like the triumph over evil was a bit too easy at the end..
like the dog was just shot and dieing... kinda lame..

    Loved the 5 brewers guys.
would have loved to see them flip into twiners running kingsland ale..

really liked jacks relationship with the boys mom.
as well as Henry and the fisherman.

But the Crow/gorg... really freaky/demonic, but it gets nailed by a couple of bullets? i don't know. just seemed like a fast read. was hoping more territory action. Overall a good read, and i did thoroughly enjoy it. Just Seemed like things kept coming in and out of focus, if that makes any sense.

thought they didn't go near the structure because they didn't need to do so. the boy's struggle to free himself was not easy. he didn't have to chew a hand off, but i wondered if he was going to make it.

yeah, was surprised the crow took a hit. i took a shot at a raven the other day. bunch of them were bugging a snowy owl, perched in a hemlock. the owl would probably have been okay, but those noisy bastards pissed me off. didn't hit him, the raven, wasn't really trying. and the owl probably though, 'cause i was almost home.'

Black House, for me, was all about the intellectual outlaw bikers. How cool was that?

You're right. Black House doesn't even compare to the genius of Talisman, but they're not the same story. After all, who would want a rehashing?

I too loved the bikers. I just finished reading for the second time. I vaguely remembered the first time and thought I loved the story. After the second time I am not so sure. It dragged in parts, tough to get into and other than the bikers there wasn't much to the story that I liked. I did like the mention or Roland and his band of gunslingers and the tie in to the Dark Tower, but overall I don't think it's in my top 10 SK books.

I'm going to have to re-read it, because I don't remember any bikers!

I was actually pleased with how the confrontation went between Jack's little ka-tet and the bad guys toward the end. It really punctuated the way that Jack, once he fully accepted his role in the whole thing, had so much power deep inside of him that dispatching these relatively minor forces was so easy. It also made the very end of the story all the more affecting.

The Thunder 5 were definitely the best. My absolute favorite line at the end though, and I looked it up to quote it right, was:

"All of them came back in one piece from the other side, and surely we did not expect that; most quests of this type usually demand at least one sacrifice (a relatively minor character like Doc, for instance.)" Classic.

Ahh, but in the end we almost lost Jacky- I loved the Thunder 5 too, I know a lot of bikers and many are very much like those fellows.

I do have to say one thing about the whole Helmet Law in Wisconsin though, (as I live in that beautiful state and I don't know if it's been corrected in printings) there is no helmet law in our state. Never has been, not for adults anyway. Chidlren yes, but not adults have to wear them.
