    Default Life and Literature

In On Writing Stephen King writes of awakening from his accident to discover that he was almost killed by a guy that seemed like a character from his own books. This made me think of the way people around us are all walking-and-breathing stories. Some people are passionate romances, some are melodramatic tales, some are pretty boring sagas and from time to time we run into clichés. Looking at the world we can see all these different stories running in and around each other.

I think my point (to quote my mother “if you just get to it child!”) is that while I am a loyal and enthusiastic admirer of books, it is good to remember that life is the real inspiration to literature and as such it can be pretty astonishing.
