Default I'm all for killing advoibs, but...

Gleefully, I just finished reading "On Writing" for the second time. I had an insatiable need to get me some more Stephen. I reluctantly picked up my unread copy of The Stand. Sneekily, I headed off to the shed to avoid my wife. I began reading. There it was: BIGGER THAN LIFE! HE wrote it! I read it with my own eyes! HE, the great Prolific One wrote on the first page of Chapter Two: "He waved smilingly at the parking lot." YUUUUUUCK! AHHHHHHH! HE wrote it! I read it!

Well, really, it's no big deal. I'll buy more anyway. And "On Writing" is still the best book on writing, bar none, and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.

    regards

I read the Harry Potter series right after reading "On Writing", and Rowling's adverbs drove me nuts. She uses them constantly

    Chill, guys.

I reckon with both SK and JK, it's more a case of "Do as I say", and less of "Do as I do."

As SK himself says in "On Writing" when there's one dandelion on the lawn, it's pretty and unique. But, if you let your lawn go...

ONE adverb is okay. DT has them everywhere but it's not overkill. I think that was the point.

I still have to wonder if Sai King ever wrote any of the Harry Potter books. I could see it happening as the books got thicker and darker.

Just something I've often wondered about... please, don't take me seriously. Heh heh.

They are like footnotes, you must stomp them or they breed! *sporfles*

Harry Potter is for kids, so it's to be expected.

"He waved smilingly at the parking lot."
I realize you object to the adverb. Are you objecting because it's an adverb while sK apparently hates them?
