Personally, the strongest (and most eerie) scene in APT PUPIL is when Renfro hands McKellen the Nazi uniform and makes him march. The scene drips with insanity.

That is a scene that I think captures the same part of the book very well. The book goes one step further than the movie and delves into the old Nazi's mind. The reason he acts that way is essentially donning the uniform gives him a flash back. Check out the story in "Different Seasons" if you haven't, it's very good creepy story telling about something that could almost actually happen.

King always seems to come up with a scene or two that stays with you and helps to define your relationship with the book (or movie). I remember ready that sequence and thinking to myself "this is waaaaaaaay over the top". I find myself doing that alot with Sai King's stories. That's one of the reasons I'll be one of his "constant readers".

Thanks aim4 i agree totally the book isnt done justice in the movie. That scene is intense in the book when they do dive into his head and show why he acts that way. I think alot of Kings books are alot better then the movies. Dont get me wrong I love the movies but to me there is nothing better then sitting down and reading one of his books on a quiet day. You get more of the picture and he gets you to fall right into the story

I agree with Cjlong, I think a lot of the magic of King's books are the fact that you picture in your mind what you think the area and people look like based on your own experiences. The mind allows us to dream/think up the unbelievable. I honestly find myself so much more satisfied reading King's books, than watching the movies based on said books. Reading a King book is like eating a home-made turkey dinner and then passing out in front of a beautiful warm fire on a cold winter's day. Some of the movies are more like eating a turkey t.v. dinner and watching a fire on a cable channel and passing out on the old smelly couch no one likes.

The goose-step scene and Dussander trying to throw the cat in the oven scene, in both the book and movie is an amazing use of symbolism,IMO.I think it symbolizes Dussander past coming to life.He also parallels the past with the present by Dussander committing murder.Great work Mr.King!
