Default The Wind through the Keyhole

I am a bit concerned that Stephen is planning on writing a new story that sits between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of Calla. While I would kill to see Roland, Eddie, Jake and Susannah again I am not convinced that an aready perfect piece of work needs another part. Here are my reasons in no particular order.

    1. Where will the drama come from? We already knows what happens to these characters so it's not like Stephen will be able to convince me that something "bad" will happen to the ka-tet. Sure he could add some new and interesting characters or bring back an old character (see - Callahan) for some sort of redemption. The problem here is that we know that none of these characters are worth investing too much in because they wont appear again later in the story.

    2. I've never liked tweener stories. Mostly for the reasons above but they can also have other major negative effects.

    3. How would he make it interesting or surprising? I am worried that this installment will greatly change our perception of one of the characters or the entire series. You know, Roland somehow has the horn in this book. In this case we wouldn't really be reading the book between the two stories but the next incarnation of Roland. Would he have to explain that anything different had happened up to that point? Would he owe us "another" final book?
Now that I think about it. Maybe that would be interesting.

What do you all think? Stephen are you ghosting ?

At least this means Roland's Ka-tet will still play a major role in this. If he decided to write one that occurred afer DT seven it wouldn't, unless maybe Roalnd got off time-loop thing and found to doorway to that alternate New York...maybe

But if he has the horn (I hadn't read this) a guess it DOES take place after DT seven.

    Song of Susannah page 234

Susannah and Mia are having palaver in Fedic. Susannah thinks to herself that Roland told her and the rest of the ka-tet three stories of his past. The Little Sisters and Doctors of Eluria (Everything's Eventual), The Walking Waters of East Downe, and about his first love (Wizard and Glass).

Since the idea of The Wind through the Keyhole was originally a few connected shorter stories perhaps we'll get to hear of The Walking Waters of East Downe?
I forget at the moment but I seem to recall in Wizard and Glass that Roland didn't want to go off on a tangent telling another story while he was telling the Mejis story as well. He might have even said something along the lines of, that's a story for another day.

Then on the front page of the main site there's the little clip saying that TWttK will involve Roland and Cuthbert pursuing a werewolf.

Looking forward to more info and VERY forward to reading the new book.

Sounds like another story form Roland's past. the comic series may have gotten SK's creative juices going.

I'm really excited about this. Maybe this will get him started up writing more stories about The Dark Tower in the future. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed about Farson and the battle of Jericho Hill someday.

I hope this is going to be collection of short stories about the DT. Most of Rolland's story has been told.

Isn't the book set after Wizard and Glass? It said Roland and Cuthbert are in it. And Cuthbert is kinda dead. So it's a book that's set in the past. AND WHO WOULDN'T WANT ANOTHER DARK TOWER BOOK!? They are great!

I don't mean to be derogatory, that's honestly not my intention, but I do wonder at the thinking that the writer must write to amuse us. A true writer writes through love of his craft, and people want to read their stuff because that passion somehow translates into the reader's experience. I was never a fan of King, I thought his work was rubbish, and started reading the Dark Tower series because of the recommendations from several friends. I read it only to shut them up, expecting to become bored or disgusted and put it down within the first chapter. Pfft!!! I was grabbed from the start of the first book, and borrowed the rest of the books from my brother because I was hungry for more. You can't write that kind of stuff if you're writing for an audience.

I've since read other King works, and although I've enjoyed them, nothing has grabbed me the way that the Dark Tower books did. His heart is in these books, he writes them because he lives them, and that's what the new book seems to be about; he loves it so much that he can't let it die yet. He wants to fully explore his world.

Sorry for a bit of a tangent there, just thought I'd share my thoughts on it

A lot of fantasy series are written partly becuase the publisher wants the author to churn out more sequals and make more money. That's not the case with King; he "follows his heart", so to speak with everything he writes. The DT is his only series, and it is all the better for it.

    Hi,

Much as I agree with everything else you say, I don't think that can be stated categorically before Talisman 3.

    Long days and pleasant nights
