    Default Mike and Kyra

I'm reading this for the second time adn have a question. I've just about gotten to the end, but it doesn't look like my question has been answered. Perhaps I missed it somewhere.

How are Mike and Kyra related? It says that they are blood.

I looked at the "family tree" over and over and just don't get how he came to that conclusion. I get that Mike is related to Kenny. But how does that relate to Mattie/Kyra and/or Mike!

Someone solve this for me, it's driving me crazy! LOL

It's been a while since I read it, but I think it has something to do with the way the name is spelled, no? Lol. I wish I could be more helpful.

I just finished reading "Bag of Bones" for the second time, great story. I didn't get that they are related at all. I could be wrong but the connection is that Mike and his wife were going to name their child Kia, fist name starting with a K ,which you will find the significance of as you finish the book, and sounding quite similar to Kyra which catches Mike off guard at their first meeting.

Yes, but, at one point, Mike says/thinks "I am her blood" or "We share the same blood" or something like that. I get the whole K name thing. I just didn't get how they shared blood. Mike's family line intermingled with the Austairs, but not with Devore's. And those two families didn't mix either.

If it was metaphorically speaking, then I get it. But the line was that they shared blood. So that's what has me confused.

I think it was a metaphor. I don't remember being confused when I read it.

I actually just finished reading this too and I didn't get the impression that they were blood related. I believe what he meant when he said he was "blood" was that the murderers throughout the years were all blood related to each other, and the victims were all blood related to each other. Not necessarily that the murderers were related to the victims themselves.

Mike was saying that since he was blood related to the Austers he was the only one who still posed a threat since the others were all out of town and only he was still local.

    I agree

I think when Frank and Mike were discussing Kyra's adoption, it was mentioned that the only surviving "relative" was a disinterested aunt, therefore, Mike himself was not a blood relative and causing problems in court because it raises the question why a single middle age man wants to adopt a little girl. He can't say I'm here uncle twice removed.
