I think I found a flaw in my copy of Bag of Bones. I'm reading the paperback copy. When Mike finally realizes what "go down 19" and "go down 92" means and discovers the hidden message in his manuscript, it matches up in the first example, but doesn't match up at all in the second. This is how "page 92" reads, directly from my copy of the book:
"'only thing I got to say. Anything else, f*ck, what
good would it do? Life's a game, and I lost. You
want me to tell you that I yanked some little kid
out of the water, puller her up, got her motor
going again? I did, but not because I'm a hero
or a saint...'
There was more but no need to read it. The message, owls under studio, ran down the margin just as it had on page nineteen."
Maybe it's just me, but going down the left margin it reads "ogwogo". If I move the words around a bit I can make it say:
"only thing I got to say. Anything else, f*ck,
what good would it do? Life's a game and I
lost. You want me to tell you that I yanked
some little kid out of the water, pulled her
up, got her motor going again? I did, but
not because I'm a hero or a saint..."
In that case, the margin reads "owlsun", which, had Mike continued reading, would be consistent with the other example. Was this (my second example) how it was supposed to read?
