so, after reading all 7 books, the one thing i'm left wondering with no answer is: why DID the calla end up producing nothing but twins? is this explained in some connecting story or have we yet to learn this?

Well, not all the birth's were twins. On rare occasions just one baby is born, and is safe from the Wolves. The Jaffords have a young one who isn't a twin.

But, imo, maybe supported with facts from the books I just can't remember, North Central Positronics and their evils may have changed the normal birthing process of the Calla folk.

I think they may have been genetically engineered by North Central Positronics to produce twins, but I don't believe an exact reason was given.

The reason is never given but like the other's said, I believe it was genetic engineering by NCP or some kind of spell by the Red King or maybe a little bit of both.
