    Default Blooper in 'IT'

On Page 542 (Hardcover edition of 'IT', published in 1986), there is a blooper, as far as I can tell. Ben Hanscom has JUST MET this woman, and has not provided any credentials, is not wearing a nametag, or anything else. Yet, after a few questions, she says "Is this a Joke, Mr. Hanscom?"... HOW DID SHE KNOW HIS NAME? My only assumption is that she is 'IT'... but nothing in the story suggests this. Anybody else have any thoughts on this? Is this a legitimate blooper the King has made?

Not sure, but maybe she knew who he was anyway, since he became a famous architecht in the meantime and had his picture on the cover of Time magazine, so she recognized him.

    Well, either or, IT rocks.

Good question. I'll have to look it up when I get home. Welcome to the board!

That's too funny. I'm just re-reading IT after a few years (Signet paperback) and when I got to the scene in the library, I actually had to backtrack a few paragraphs to see if I didn't miss anything.

It could be two reasons: what Srbo said about Ben being famous, or Mr. King being in the moment and forgetting that little detail (and me as a reader am so into the moment also that I didn't really notice until the third time reading IT.

I just read this thread 3 times trying to figure out what the hells you guys were talking about!
I was thinking that you all were WAAAY off base here and mayhap ya'll had stepped outside of your minds, even though you guys said IT about a million times, and despite the fact that the title of the thread is "Blooper in IT," in my mind, for some quantum dyslexic reason I thought you were talking about Salem's Lot! WTF!
Oh Dear... I've been under a lot of stress.

But anyhow, I assume the reason she addressed him by name without an introduction was because he was famous.

I just came across the same thing in The Wolves of Calla, page 533, HC, Grant, 1st edition.

Calvin Tower and Eddie are talking and Cal adresses him as " Mr Dean " even though there wasn`t a fomal introduction priror to that.

I guess that Sai King has faith that his Constant Reader is smart enough to not bother with such things to often as with those formal introductions.
Why describe the obvious, that people said their names when they met ?

It`s not like he has to draw everything for us now, is it ?

Have to admit this skipped my notice and I must have read It close to 40 times over the years. But there are plenty of slips like that, and I saw some funny lists of them on the net.

Not a typo. Ben Mears simply existed on a level of the Dark Tower where doctors are sorely misinformed on how to treat concussions.

Proof once again how the Dark Tower is the answer to all typos.
