    Default New King reader here.

Alright, so I picked up Nightmares and Dreamscapes because i wanted to get into King, and I had a bit of a wait before Terry Brooks published his new one. (My favorite author at the time, now very likely pushed aside by King).
Anyway, lets just say that in a matter of maybe 2 weeks, i had bought...
    The Dark Tower series.
    Night Shift
    Skeleton Crew
    Nightmares and Dreamscapes
    Everything Eventual
    Just After Sunset
    The Stand
    The Eyes of the Dragon
    It
and finally Black House (to be fair, my dad gave me black house, and I had bought It a while ago, just never picked it up)

First, let me say that i can not believe how hopelessly hooked i am. I am about done with Night Shift, about done with The Wastelands, and have taken a decent sized chunk out of Nightmares and Dreamscapes (Loved Dolan's Cadillac).

I really cant think of much else to say. I was going to ask a question, but it was mainly if there was a list of all his works, and i know i can find that on my own. Also, i could ask for any must haves, but from where it stands right now, im going to end up with all of them anyways. Im mainly curious as to how i got away from reading through most of my teen years, im way far behind.

Anyway, what are your memories of when you first got into King?

I started reading SK after I saw Carrie years ago. After watching the movie and being scared out of my wits, I thought "I HAVE to read this book!".......I was hooked!!

I discovered king when he published his first book, carrie. Didn't realize the true scope of his genius until he published Salem's Lot. Then I knew he would be the one I would follow for life.

You should tackle It or the Stand next, since you have them. They are at the very pinnacle of his work.

I was always of the opinion that "Salem's Lot" was a a brilliant piece of writing. I'm no literary critic mind you...but this is a vampire story. We have all seen and heard vampire stories. To take what is familiar and and produce something that scared the s**t out of me was impressive.

I wrote in a prior post that "The Stand" was the first King novel I read. I have enjoyed just about everything he has published...but Doc is correct...this is Stephen King at the top of his game.

Excellent choices! I would like to mention that if you haven't read Black House yet, don't. Put it off until you first get & read The Talisman. Black House is a continuation in the life of the main character of The Talisman. If you read Black House first, you might not understand some of the events that happen. It would be like reading The Gunslinger series out of order!
