Question Enjoyed Rose Red, but I got to whine about a plot point

I watched it for the first time yesterday on a scifi channel marathon, DVRed so that I could forward through commercials. Made for a very enjoyable afternoon. But there was a key plot point that bothered me all the way through.

It all hinges on Reardon's determination to get tangible evidence of psychic phenomena, so that she can keep tenure and cement her career. And she's fully aware of Anna's history and abilities.

So why in the hell does she bother with Rose Red at all?? She's got Anna, who in their very first meeting, demonstrates her psychokinesis. Further, its made clear that she can turn it on and off at will, since she quits spinning the bike wheels when Sissy chides her.

Why wouldn't she just take Anna into the office, hand her some dominoes and roll some video? Why go to the trouble of using Anna as a catalyst to stir up something else when she has Anna herself?

    SPOILERS!!!

Because she was also obsessed with the house, not to say VERY obsessed with Ellen Rimbauer and her past and story. Joyce was having problems with a male (the mean professor), and Ellen, of course, had her mean husband. So Joyce was drawn to many aspects of the house and its owner, and was driven by her mistrust (hate) to some male persons
