Brian... No Country For Old Men is excelent and Bardem is chilling! I think more than any of the objections I've heard (eye color, height, weight, ethnicity etc...none of which bother me) I'm mainly concerned about his voice. I love Anthony Hopkins, Jeff Bridges and Tom Hanks, however none of them would be appropriate for Roland... Perhaps I'm just wanting to see the PROOF that Bardem can be our gunslinger! If he CAN do it, I'm all for it.

At any rate, I'm just dying to see who else gets cast, find out who's scoring our beloved epic, and above all else I want to know... HOW ARE THEY DIVIDING THE STORY?! Suffice to say, there's no way movie 1 is going to be "The Gunslinger" then roll credits; there's far too much story to tell, and I think stopping there would leave casual audiences out in the cold (or desert, if it please ya). Also, Is Wizard and Glass going to be one of the mini series, or will it be flashbacks, cut out completely? Pretty big questions, if you ask me...

    Long Days, Pleasant Nights!

what makes me think Bardem will make a great Roland is that scene in No Country where he is strangling the deputy on the floor.
    that crazy stare/smile
Makes me think of what Roland's face must look like when he is mid-battle, with dozens of people bearing down on him and his old warhammers are blasting away.

my thoughts on the beginning of the movie *CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THE CODA OF DT7*

I reckon start from where the books ended. Give Roland the horn.
That will give a small yet significant difference as the stories have pointed to, so there could be a bit of flexibility in this storyline.

I'd start the movie in like a dream sequence/montage (that word just reminds me of south park) of the coda from the dark tower book. Maybe just all black or hazy like you feel when the characters are going todash. End with his scream and pitch black - then blinding light as he opens his eyes walking across the desert with the horn on his hips.

And no credits at the beginning, just the movie name right at the start.

    thoughts?

This forum should be gettin busier now as more news about the DT movie(s) starts hotting up. With regards to casting the roles, I like what i've seen so far but I do think Ewan McGregor would make a perfect Eddie Dean. Maybe someone more 'chiselled' for Roland but then make-up is so good these days.
I'm also not completely sold on the idea of the TV series in between movies yet either. I think that the first 3 books could easily make for an action packed 1st movie. The 2nd movie could be the retrospective 'Wizard and Glass' story and the 3rd could be a kick ass conclusion. I don't think any of those films need to be any longer than the Lord of the Rings trilogy that was so successful.

So, is this project definitely dead?

Howard Off Dark Tower? Universal says Ron Howard's epic adaptation (three movies, plus TV) of Stephen King's novel The Dark Tower is "being rewritten." But sources close to Howard say the project has come to a serious standstill, and Howard's ready to jump ship. Word is, Howard wants to direct Scott Rudin's Somali pirate project slated for 2013 for Sony. Howard's best pal, Tom Hanks, has signed as Richard Phillips, the skipper of cargo ship Maersk Alabama, who was held hostage by Somali pirates, then rescued by Navy SEALs in 2009. It has been widely reported that Paul Greengrass is close to signing a deal to direct the pirate film, but insiders say Hanks wants Howard because they've worked together on five movies. A spokesperson for Universal denies Dark Tower is dead; spokespeople for Sony would not comment.

I would consider it unconfirmed rumor. I think Steve would have mentioned it if that decision had been made.
