    Default H1N1 strikes again

So, my husband has been feeling crappy for a few days. Yesterday I got home from work, and he was half-delirious with a high fever and had blue fingernail beds. Despite his protests (being delirious, he thought I wanted to take him on a road trip), I dragged him to the ER. The verdict: H1N1. He's now at home taking Tamiflu, steroids for his lungs, and a broad-spectrum antibiotic because they thought he was getting some kind of secondary bacterial infection.

The irony: he is a nurse and was scheduled to run a flu vaccine clinic today.

Gosh Todash, I hope he gets better quickly. I don't know anyone personally who's battled H1N1. Would you mind if I ask if he's had the H1N1 vaccine? That might be an ignorant question since he's not contracted it, but I thought those who worked in the health field were one of the first groups to get it. Though, I imagine he's exposed to so much being a nurse.

I hope he gets better and back on his feet right away. Take care of your patient...sending you good thoughts and energy.

The swine flu knew he was trying to kill it, so it got him first! The virus has become sentient!

    ...coming soon from SK 2010?

No, I don't mind at all. He hasn't had it; it's not available in our area yet except for a very limited supply for children two to four years old. Unfortunately (if you haven't seen this in the news) the vaccine suppliers have not been able to get as much produced as they wanted to, and this year the flu season is starting early. Since they didn't actually do a blood test (it's so prevalent in our area right now that they just assume you have H1N1 if you are diagnosed with influenza), we'll probably still get it if/when we can, just in case.

For a lot of people it's very mild, the doctor said. I think I actually may have had it a few weeks ago, but if so it was hardly noticeable—a few days of a tight chest, sore eye muscles, and then a half day of a runny nose. (Strangely, I am having a little bit of a tight chest again today ...) My MIL then got those same symptoms x 100, plus muscle soreness. Then my FIL got it, and he never gets sick. Now my husband. He has mild asthma too, which always gets a little worse in the autumn, and so it was really bad timing for him.

That reminds me. Word to the wise: if you have asthma or any other chronic lung/airway condition and you come down with flu-like symptoms, GO TO THE DOCTOR. (He tried earlier but couldn't get an appt.)

Sorry to hear for your husband. Hope he's get better soon and hope you stay well. It seems like h1n1 has arrived to Finland also, because I heard that many people got sick in Rovaniemi. It's not so far from where I live. So h1n1 is in my hometown sooner or later.

Sorry to hear that Todash. Hope he gets well soon. Some people close to me have it. The classrooms are half empty here. I'm in environmental services and I have been so busy lately. They have signs all over the hospital to keep the flu patients to the emergency room. Can't say it's working out so well. Luckily, I have avoided getting sick, I wash my hands so much its like im obsessed.

Todash, I hope he feels better soon. My kids have been sick off and on with a respiratory illness. A little girl had h1n1 who sits at my daughters table in school. Shortly after that, my daughter became ill and even though she was tested (negative) I still think that's what she had, it lasted about a week. I think in most healthy people it's "mild" so don't worry too much. Prayers going out for a speedy recovery.
