Default New to the forum and I've started The Dark Tower

Earlier this month I decided to get back into reading and decided to start with Stephen King. I've wanted to read more of his books for a while but haven't gotten around to it till this month. When I was much younger I read Needful Things and The Green Mile, but I dont really remember much abut them now other than I really liked them (I'm planning on re-reading them soon).

Recently I decided to start with Pet Sematary, which I loved, and continued with The Long Walk, The Langoliers novella, Rage, 'Salem's Lot, with some sprinklings of short stories from Skeleton Crew and Night Shift in there. I thought they were all great!

Now I decided to start The Dark Tower and love it! I just finished The Drawing of the Three and found t so wonderfully exciting and fast-paced! Much different from The Gunslinger (which was also good in its own right)! The new characters! The doors! Roland helping Eddie on the plane! Balazar's office shootout! Odetta/Detta! The drugstore and gun shop! The lobstrosities! Roland in New York! Just delightful from beginning to end! I can't wait to see what happens next.

But I've decided to take a little break before The Wastelands to read some other Stephen King. I'm about to start The Dead Zone and then I think I'll be ready for a big one like The Stand. Maybe I'll do Bag of Bones as well and I have Under The Dome on reserve at the library! So many choices! Any other suggestions? This site is great!

Be careful of spoilers! Especially around the DT part of the forum...

But, have fun! I just finished DT 7 a month ago. It's amazing. I would suggest reading some of the books directly connected to DT.
Insomnia, The Talisman/Black House, IT, The Stand... there are lots!

"Insomnia" can be a tacklin' drag (both the book, and in Real Life), but "Thinner" is a quick read. "Cujo" is also well-paced. "Eyes of the Dragon" if you like moderately High-Fantasy without elves and orcs.

Many folks here recommend some of the (great) hefty King Tomes to people that are starting out on the Grand Trip. It's the wrong approach. Ease into the water...I assure you that it's quite warm.

(No one would recommend 'Silmarillion' before 'Hobbit,' but some folks here do something similar all the time!)

    Welcome to the nuthouse!

Take a break?? Don't know how you could want to..but like someone else posted I suggest reading Little Sisters of Eluria (found in Everything's Eventual) Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis and Black House. Little Sisters of Eluria is a Dark Tower short story that takes place before the events in The Gunslinger and the others are all closely related to the Dark Tower series.

I always consider It a good recommendation.
Cujo works well after reading The Dead Zone.
The Talisman alone (for awhile; I do respect taking a break between volumes of a series) makes for a good light read, and another is Different Seasons. Bryan might be right about not beginning with SK's "hefty tomes," but it is a good thing if you want to read The Stand before The Waste Lands.
    Also, It.
