Default The Talisman and The Dark Tower

    Hi,

Now tell me, I'm nearing the end of The Talisman - and getting quite pissed at the fact that there seems to be no foreshadowing to most of the events I already know are in Black House.

Tell me, those of you who have read both, are there actual connections to The Dark Tower that are foreshadowed well-enough? I don't want to be a stickler, but I wouldn't like it if Black House is pasted on between the two, seemingly disconnected from The Talisman except for characters and location.

Sorry for the rant, just wondering.

    Long days and pleasant nights

I think most people are disappointed by Black House, but not for lack of connections. Black House clarifies the relationship of the territories to the DT multiverse.

I'm not sure what you're asking here.

If you want elemnts of Black House to be foreshadowed in The Talisman, that doesn't really happen. Just the characters and The Territories.

If you want Dark Tower elements in The Talisman, those are there... you just have to look a little harder. One example is that in the very beginning, when Jack remembers almost being kidnapped when he was 4, the kidnappers were Low Men.

    We all float down here.

check out the sun dog, stephen, when you get a chance. some interesting linkages there to what you're reading. gotta remember that there's s'posed to be a third to this series, so all the latecomers get to experience the wait. let's hope everyone keeps their eye on the road, their hands upon the wheel.

I just finished The Talisman (for the 2nd time) & will start Black House (for the 2nd time) tomorrow. Anyways, both books are directly connected to TDT saga. Specially TDT 3 & 4. Sloat is very much like RF (ain't he eh).

All things revolve around that big dark rose scented pile of bricks-and "Black House" is no exception....

When I read the Talisman and the DT saga, I found a few connections, but what I visualized was how Jack and Jake we so similar. Pretty close in age, both have weird sort of pets, and both are thrown into different worlds to battle. I like to wonder what it would be like if they were friends. Or if there was a later story of Jake as an adult like there was for Jack. Sorry, nothing to do with the thread, just my thoughts of character comparison.

I think there are quite a lot of connections, I mean the Depot reminded me of Blaine's station's twinner, I think it is interesting that both the Blasted lands and the Waste lands (which were both a mutated nuclear hellscape) are bisected by a train line...Was the Depots electric train an early version of Blaine? Or merely its twinner? I also found it interesting that Laura Delossian/ Jack's Mom were afflicted by a wasting disease; which reminded me of how Roland’s mother remained under Flagg’s spell which caused her to disconnect from her court, and family ( just like the queen). The overall theme of corrupting a land of magic with machines was also an interesting similarity. I love how King can use his fiction to so accurately reflect the real devastation that modern weapons cause. I loved both and feel that anyone who loves DT should read the Talisman and vice versa, can't wait to read Black house!!!
