Thumbs up Just saw the movie and wow

Oh my god, I just saw the shawshank redemption and like I said wow. This was one of the best King movies that I've seen. I use to love Children of the corn, then it was 1408, now its shawshank redemption. The funny thing is, the reason I started looking into the movie was, I was watching Family Guy the other night, and I had previously heard of the movie and how good it was but I had no clue intill I watched it earlier. I've read lots of his books but not too many of his short story collections. This might be the exception, I found that it was 1 of 4 novellas in the collection Different Seasons. I've loved and didn't put down any of King's stories intill I was done with them, I currently am reading The Wastelands ( the third dark tower book ) next I am going to read The Long Walk which is under the Richard Bachman name.
I'm actually a writer myself and I never stop becoming more and more amazed at his work, I hope one day I can be as good as King as, He is my hero and just about 100% of my inspiration in that field, Thank you Stephen King and keep it coming!

    Completely agree, my friend.

I'm sure if you carried out a survey on here to find the best movie adaptation of a SK story, then "Shawshank" would emerge victorious.

I'm always skeptical about King's stories being turned into movies. It's so hard to depict what he writes on the screen and not loose a lot of the details that are so important in his writing. BUT, Shawshank is totally awesome! They picked all of the right actors and stayed with the storyline. LOVE IT!

I agree; it was a fantastic movie. I never found myself thinking about whether "this part was right," or "was that in the story?" It was a captivating movie, and the stars in it were perfection. I've only seen it once, but it felt as though I'd seen it several times; the character just talked to me. Robbins isn't a favorite of mine (sorry fans!), but he was perfection in this movie. And as I said in the "what movie are you watching thread," Morgan Freeman is a classic. Timeless. Perfect. Amazing. I wish he were a member of my family.

There are many good SK movies out there. There are also plenty of SK stories that could be made into entertaining movies. That's what I like about SK, being so prolific and talented. If I were you, however, I'd continue with the Dark Tower Series to the end. I did it that way so I wouldn't forget the on-going story. Just a suggestion. Happy reading!

I loved this movie. It wasn't scary like most of his stuff & I was suprised at how much I loved it. I also liked that they kept the movie along w/the story.

If they just stick with the way King wrote it, it works. There are several wonderful movies adapted from his stories. They follow the books almost word for word and that's why they worked. Don't mess with the King!

how many people are with me when i state that the single best part of this movie is Clancy Brown? he's amazing in everything he's in- just a great underrated actor.
he played Byron Hadley, for those with short memories.
