Default Shawshank - Didn't know this was SK's

When I saw the Shawshank Redemption, it bored me. I find Morgan Freeman an outstanding actor but have never cottoned to Tim Robbins and that may be why I did not enjoy Shawshank.

I decided to read Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption since it was included in Different Seasons.

The story was so much better than the movie for me. I enjoyed SK's writing. I enjoyed the ending. The book revealed much more of the persistence - perseverance than the movie was able to portray.

I've watched the movie (or parts of it) many times. I thought the overall cast was excellent, even though I'm not an ardent Tim Robbins fan.

It's easy to say such things when I'm in the vast majority. Good short (long) story, and a great movie.

    Wow...Shawshank bored you?
I found the movie outstanding. I feel Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman both excelled in their roles.
I believe a lot of the original story was captured in the movie adaptation.
IMO it ranks alongside the Green Mile and Stand By Me for quality...a very good production.

I really need to watch this movie again. I have avoided it. Watching it now may make a difference.

Not sure bored describes my feeling for the movie. Just didn't enjoy it and can't put my finger on why. I need to watch it again.

Totally disagree, but I'm entitled to do that on the SKMB! Doesn't freedom rock!

I actually almost gave up on Different Seasons after struggling through Shawshank Redemption, waiting for the story to catch fire.

But the movie? Absolutely one of the finest ever made, and almost certainly the best ever adaptation of a SK story.

I think the movie is almost exactly like the book. It seems like it would be impossible to like one and not the other

Shawshank is alot like the book, I think the only closer adaptations of Kings works are The Green Mile and Stand By Me

Spot on, I saw the movie first and when I read the story I was surprised how close the movie stuck to it, particularly as it is such a short story and the film so long. The movie of Apt Pupil on the other hand was very different to the story, but I guess that's for another message board...

Shawshank Redemption is one of my fav stories by Stephen King, and the movie justified it very well, it was so moving, and had a lovely warm ending to it that made you feel great. I saw the film before I read the book, which made me feel I wish I had read the book first, but it was great to read the book afterwards, and Ive read it a couple of times now.
