    Default Ending/dimension *SPOILERS*

At the end of "Buick", when Sandy stares down the trunk of the Buick, what he sees there has always made me assume the car is in fact a portal to the Waste Lands beyond Lud (DTIII). It is of course a low man that drives the Buick and abandons it in the beginning of the story, but the "portal" itself seems to draw people into - and monsters out of - the Waste Lands.
I canīt really explain why Iīve always assumed this. I guess itīs partly because the illustrations of the WL creatures in DTIII remind me greatly of how King describes the things that come out of the Buick, and also because the scenery that Sandy sees - the dead yellow grass filled with weird bugs, the poisonous fumes in the air - all seems to fit with what Rolands tet sees when travelling onboard Blaine the mono.

    Any thoughts?

Well, that seems plausible to me. It is certainly a doorway into some level of the tower, some other world, and the land beyond Lud is a close approximation, if not the actual location (which it very well could be).

I made the assumption too that this was the wastelands he was seeing. Pretty cool story

I never thought of that. But now that you mention it, it does sound very plausible.

I was so wrapped up in the story itself that I didn't think of it as related, but then I saw on the DT Connections Page that the car was most likely a portal to the todash spaces. I definitely have to start thinking big picture now while reading SK's works!

Well, it was a great book, but I'm sad to say that I haven't read any of The Dark Tower books yet, so I wouldn't know anything about the Waste Lands. However, it is an intriguing idea. I do love Mr. King's tendency to connect his books, so it wouldn't suprise me if what your saying was true.

in my humble reader's opinion, From a Buick 8 is one of the most underestimated and overlooked King novel
