Lightbulb October is Breast Cancer awareness and Proctober

I am usually not one to post a serious post..Just thought it would be good to remind all the ladies that Breast cancer awareness month is October..Don't slack on getting your yearly mammogram..early detection is the best form of fighting breast cancer..I know the exam is not fun, but it could save your life. Also, the importance of self exam monthly. For the guys, Don't slack on getting your yearly prostate exam..Again, not fun and probably as humiliating as the yearly exam for gals. However, again early detection is the best way to fight cancer.. (steps off soap box)

Soap box schmope box, thanks for the most excellent reminder, as this upcoming year is the beginning of my half century mark.

.....Really?..oh my word, kinda sneaks right up on ya don't it?
(Uhhh, personally, I think I'll be skipping the self-examine thing myself, and utilize the services of a professional...not nearly as limber as I use to be)

I would also like to point out that breast cancer although more prevalent in women affects men also:

An increased incidence is seen in men who have a number of female relatives with breast cancer.

An increased risk of male breast cancer has been reported in families in which a BRCA2 mutation has been identified.

    Great thread Arista.

I believe in regularly checking my breasts for any unusual lumps and bumps, as unfortunately I don't have a guy to do it for me...big sigh!
When I was 20 I nursed a girl of 18 who had a mastectomy due to breast cancer, that put everything into perspective for me.
Those of you who are lucky enough to be in a relationship have no excuse, your partner can often feel things that you may miss yourself. So get busy playing Doctors and Nurses guys...you may as well enjoy it.

thanks for the reminder Arista... the NFL has been participating as well, so if you've noticed an abundance of pink on the sidelines of your favorite team (hats, shoes, gloves, etc.) that would be why... you can also purchase the "pink" NFL products with a portion of sales going toward breast cancer awareness.

for the guys I am young but after hearing of some bleeding symptoms that a 42 year old guy had down the block (he passed away withn 6 months) that slapped me in the face i got checked out--- by the dreaded butt doctor! turned out i had a precancerous polyp would have been Big big trouble--could have ended up like the guy down the block.. I was only 40 at the time and caught it just in time.

My yearly physical exams turned up other issues so do them even if you feel great!!

    Thanks for the thread.

A few years ago, my older sister had it, but they found it on time.
And prevented it from spreadin around quickly, so she is as healthy and whole as she can be.

Cost me a scmittload of money, cos overthere nobodys is going to pay for that surgery, so I sent her the money.
And heck - I`m really proud of that.

Our local paper is also putting out a special pink edition on Sat the 17th with part of the proceeds going towards Breast Cancer Awareness. I've been through a breast cancer scare with my own Mother. Her mammogram showed a shadow which thankfully, turned out to be a cyst. Arista, great reminder about those screenings.
