Default For Ms. Mod (about closing threads)

    Ms. M . --

Can't say I didn't see that one coming. I think I want to make a suggestion though; since bad things come in threes, someday whenever thread pops up that causes the Culture War to break out yet again, when the time comes to close that thread... do you think you might give advance warning, like "I'm shutting this b!tch down in twelve hours, please present your final arguments"... like that?

This morning I wanted to squeeze one last thing off to thank a couple of people for standing up for what they (and I) believe in before it was too late... and it was too late.

    We all float down here.

Was going to answer this in a PM but thought it might be helpful to others to post the response here.

Even though there are times when it looks like things might be heading in the direction of closing a thread, it's been able to be turned around so I've given it more opportunity but other times things spiral out of control so quickly that leaving it open would not be in the best interest of the Board. I've on occasion thought that maybe just having a "time out" to give people a chance to take a breath and get emotions back in check could work. What I wouldn't want to see is a notice it will be closing in X number of hours that would just give the opportunity to get in one last punch.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can still use the Thanks button even when a thread is closed. You could also send a PM to those you wanted to thank or post in their Profile if you want to make it more public.

Yes you can still use the Thanks button on a closed thread. I've done it.

Nobody wins when a thread deteriorates to the point that respectful debate cannot be continued.

This is great news. I'm like one of those lab rats hitting the crack dispenser when it comes to the thanks button.

I for one am glad when a thread that is spiraling out of control gets locked down. As some smart guy once said, "Pointing fingers always leads to pointing guns, because nobody listens to fingers."

None, but I find that swearing is quite cathartic. Fortunately I usually work in the office alone so I'm not offending anyone. I also make frequent use of an energy medicine technique called expelling the venom. Keeps the stress level tolerable.

I have an image of you sitting at a desk, hissing, cursing and spitting.
