    Default Dreamcatcher ...2009

I just watched Dreamcatcher for the first time (better late than never and in the interview with SK, he said, if I'm still around in 2009, I will read it again and tell you what I think of it.

What does SK think of Dreamcatcher now that it's 2009?

I hope you read the novel before seeing the film. Maybe I'm old school (old, for sure), but I've always tried to read the real thing before watching the movie. Works better for me, especially "Dreamcatcher". Great book. Movie...not so IMHO. I know this doesn't address your question on SK's 2009 thoughts, sorry about that. Sometimes I jump in too quick.

    Question Re: Dreamcatcher ...2009

The book was great. The movie was so-so/half-way decent. That is bcause the movie (like many) leave out key parts of the book. Btw, the acting by Morgan Freeman was bad. Like he never liked the part in the 1st place. Sounds like he got the part due to greed or a good con-job.

They were both pretty good. The movie was just more of an abridged version. Chunks missing.

I think Stephen King expressed his thoughts on the movie quite extensively in his introduction to "Dreamcatcher - The Shooting Script", published in 2003, titled "All Story, No Bacon." If I'm allowed to quote:
    ___

"I can't wait for the bacon sandwiches. They didn't take out the bacon sandwiches, did they?" — My wife, Tabitha
"Just tell me they didn't leave out the raw bacon." — My publisher, Susan
"The part I'm waiting for are the ****ing bacon sandwiches!" — My editor, Chuck

What they were all talking about and hoping for, just in case you're one of those good-for-nothing lazybones who goes to see the movie but never reads the book, is a sequence in the novel version of Dreamcatcher where the alien invader, Mr. Gray (who has grown quite fond of using his host's sensory equipment), chows down on a few pounds of raw bacon and then whoops it all back up. It's not in the movie. The good news is that a lot of other stuff is in it, including a small but vital something that usually gets left out: namely, the spirit of the story.
    ___

I think that sums it up. :-)

You know, it's funny. I just found a copy of this book in hardcover and was about to re-read it. It's one of my faves by SK but I've never seen the movie. I don't want the movie to ruin my perception of the book because I love the book so much. Does that make sense?

    Cheers,
    Jamieson
