    Default The Raft

My favorite segment of this movie was "The Raft" -
I remember reading the story many years ago as well
    (in Skeleton Crew, wasn't it?).

What got to me was that the kid who almost made it
was partly responsible for the death of one of the girls
because he couldn't stop thinking with his little head
long enough for the big one to keep in mind that during
such a crisis, it might not be the best time to be screwing
around. His decision to start making out with the girl
ultimately led to her death - what's worse is that his near
escape was a direct result of the "Oil Slick" being pre-
occupied with said girl. I'll admit I got a little thrill
when this selfish dude "got his" at the end. Was he
the son of the guy who was married to Wilma in the first
Creepshow? Not sure why I'm wondering that...INTP...heh.

Live, love, laugh & be happy,

THE RAFT is pretty decent. I really like how the Cisco/Poncho bit runs through it and OL' CHIEF WOODENHEAD (which is my favorite segment of CREEPSHOW 2).

Heck, I even bought THE RAFT t-shirt.

While the original Creepshow will forever be the better of the two (I won't even count CS 3), I have always had a special place in my heart for Creepshow 2. And really, my only complaint is that it lacked at least two more stories. Anyway, THE RAFT was my favorite dark tale of the three and I loved King's story just as much. I truly love it when you place a cast of ordinary characters in the middle of an unusual situation and see how they respond and ultimately try to resolve the problem. In most case, especially in the world of Stephen King, the characters get the short end of the stick and meet gruesome deaths. I loved the idea of these four characters being stranded on a raft (float) in the middle of a freezing cold lake, far from help, while this strange slick stalks them and eats them. Great premise, right? I liked how The Raft in the film wrapped up the ending by showing the viewer exactly what happened to the last teen instead of leaving it to you imagination. Can't wait to get my own shirt.

The Raft was very good! And it is so underrated too! It made me not want to swim in a lake/pond ever again...much like Jaws did for people never wanting to get back in the ocean again. It has that "what would you do?" concept which I think King is great at.

The Raft is wonderful! It always cracks me up when the guy thinks he is safe and then the blob thing gets him. He did deserve it.
