    Default Today I started my 3rd Re-read

I first read The Shining in October of 2007, right after finishing The Tommyknockers which, believe it or not, actually made me a King fan.

Well, The Shining was great, with one of the creepiest scenes I've ever read, and it is a perfect Halloween read. So, I decided to make a tradition out of it. I read it a second time last year, and now have started it a third time. And I find it odd that despite how familiar I've become with the book, it doesn't seem to lose any luster with repetition. It is easily accessible, without dumbing it down, and setting it in an isolated, empty hotel, surrounded by impassable snow, invokes a stong sense of atmosphere that I don't see too often in other books.

I'm looking forward to more chilly, sleepless nights as I work my way--yet again--through what just may be King's most frightening novel.

I haven't read this one in years, but you give me the urge to go pick it up again. Thanks you fellow constant reader, I shall go and dig it out of my library.

Listening to it on CD as my first "re-read".

It's in my top 3 of SK's books, and I really wanted to re-read it but there are plenty of books I haven't read yet, so it's a nice compromise.

I've read The Shining 4 times and I always get goosebumps at certain points. When Danny yells for help and Hallorann "hears" him so far away. The topiary kills me everytime I go there. I hate shrubs! The elevator. Ah shoot, now I'm going to have to read it again... Need a goosebump fix.
