Default Good Thoughts For People In Need.

I'm thinking specifically about the people caught up in the recent natural disasters - the flooding in Atlanta, the devastation in the Philippines, the earthquakes and Tsunami involving Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga and now in Sumatra, Indonesia. So many lives lost and others changed for ever.
My heart goes out to all these people and I hope and pray that the world will come to their aid, not just now, but weeks and months down the line when these disasters may be gone from our minds... but definitely not from their lives.

I thought it would be nice to have a place here for people to post their encouragement and to give hope to the many families and communities affected by these events.... but also for anyone in need of some moral support.

To the (((people of Atlanta, the Philippines, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga and Sumatra))) many good thoughts coming your way.

My kids and I are planning on making a small donation - even though it is a huge cliché, I really do believe that every little bit helps.

Flake, that was a beautiful post. Indeed, we often forget after the news, TV, papers stops broadcasting the filmage of the disasters. Those people will deal with the disasters for years. It has changed their lives forever.
People who dealt with Katrina, still live with it- daily.

Let us not forget the people of these nations and lands. Prayers are being said for them and for those that will come to their aid. Many that help come quickly. It is heartbreaking to watch people digging with bear hands to rescue those trapped.

May the american agencies receive donations -

There but for the Grace of God, it could be any of us in that situation.
    Prayers.

    Awesome thread and thoughts.

No donation is too small and especially it`s not a cliche.

Thanks, Flakey, for this, if only more people would think this way.

Devastating news coverage. People losing everyone and everything. All of it is just heartbreaking.

If everybody in the world just gave a dollar, well that would be several billion dollars, wouldn't it?

This is the kind of thinking/feeling I would like to see come out of these disasters. There isn't a whole lot of 'positive' for these people right now but those of us that aren't directly affected, can do a whole lot for them. I don't necessarily mean for people to open their wallets either (this isn't at all why I started this thread) I'm hoping people will open their hearts.... that they won't just turn their heads or change the channel when it comes on TV; that they'll feel some of what these people are going through. Help can come in many forms though - sorting through clothing, toys and tools etc that may be extra.. these things can be passed on. Yesterday my kids asked if they could spend the last week of their school holidays selling fruit from our trees to raise money. Small things like this might make a big difference and I think it's important to teach our kids empathy too, during times like these. Disasters like this are always going to happen and I just hope that there will always be empathetic people to help pick up the pieces.
I've heard many stories of people here at home and in Aussie where they are dropping what they're doing and are heading over to the islands to help search for people and to try and make a start in the clean up. I salute these people and wish that I was in a position to do the same. It's all so heart breaking and I wish I could do more than just feel gutted for them all...
