Default Under The Dome Length (?)

Hi , been lurking around and looking at the Board for what seems to be a long time now . Never sure how stupid any questions I may have would sound (bit like being back at school) but here goes . Didn't qualify to order a signed copy of UTD as it's only available in the US and I live in the UK , so , when ordering my UK copy it would appear to have far fewer pages than that which is available in the US . Can anyone help clarify ? Although I get mine from a local bookseller Amazon.com list it as 1088 pages and Amazon.co.uk list it as 896 pages . Am I missing something here or will I be missing something if I buy it in the UK?

    Hi,

Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!

No, it's usually down to layout, design and typography, so obviously Hodder UK will save a few trees (hope they don't use the tiny point size they used for DT7 - that HURT!).

    Long days and pleasant nights

Because of different pagination, etc. the UK edition is a number of pages shorter than the US edition. All the words are there, however. You're not missing any text.

I check the Hodder & Stoughton site at least once a day:

Thanks for those replies . Do we know if Hodder have given any hints yet or even mentioned it on their site ? I keep looking but haven't come up with anything yet .

Well I'm not sure what the UK or US releases will actually be but the ARC is 1072 pages with a couple at the end with a note from the author. Other sites have various sizes, like Goodreads lists it as 1100 pages.

I had the exact opposite when I was reading Lisey's Story, also the Hodder and Stoughton version. I know the font has to be read by everyone, but that font was enormous. I thought I actually ordered the version for short sighted people, if there's such a thing. I ordered the American version of 'Under the Dome' (love that cover), so it doesn't really matter to me personally. But around a thousand pages is a pretty long story, regardless of the font or anything. Can't wait for it.

I just wonder how or who designs the page layout: some books use large font and more pages such as From a Buick 8, some books smaller font still more pages. Stupid Question, but comparing Under the Dome to IT, which has more WORDS? And so far, what is the longest novels?

Each publisher does their own typesetting/design. I don't have a reference that includes the word count for each of Stephen's novels so can't tell you which one is the longest in actual words.
