    Default the night flier

hi. there's a nice line in the night flier (several, actually), but this one goes like this:'the flower children of the sixties had grown into the cannibals of the nineties.' yeah, i'm wanting some more of that cannibals thingy. be pleased as punch w/another 60 pages. yay!

here's another great line: '...trailing severed intestines like party-favors and dropping his kidneys on the concrete like a couple of oversized chunks of birdsh!t.' wonderful images, all. or how about this one: 'his nose lay in halves, reminding dees for some mad reason of a grilled frankfurter, split and ready for the bun.' yum!

the night flier is a neat story. you take off w/it, then you step back for a section or two, go forward again. and! you get to see a vampire take a piss! i'm sure that one made the critics day.

Great post, Bluey! It's one of my favorite short stories. One of the dozen or so in my top 5... And yes, your spoiler might be the first and only time I've ever read of that activity in a work of horror. Leave it to Stephen King to add an interesting facet to the mystique!

Very cool story. I would be a reader of The Inside View for sure. Ive seen mention of it in this story as well as The Dead Zone. Im trying to remember if anybody talks about it in other books. Remember?

If I remember correctly the vampire in the Night Flier makes another appearance in Popsy.

I enjoyed the story more on subsequent re-reads.

night flier is one of those stories that takes patience but once you hear of a vampire pissing and all the mangled bodies and blood all over the place, it pays off.

Do you think it could be the same vampire? I was thinking that Popsy took a more bat-like form. Since the story mentions talons and all, while the nightflier was a more traditional vampire.

I had a tough time reading this one. I couldn't get into it until King got to describing how the victims died. It becomes very creative at the point, as "wally wonder" pointed out.
