    Talking Tommyknocker technology!

"The Tommyknockers" has always been one of my favorite King books. Perhaps I am posting this in the wrong location, but I wonder if now wouldn't be an outstanding time to try to refilm it - - this time correctly, of course - - predicated on two things: first, Hollywood has finally gotten it through their thick collective head that you CANNOT improve upon a King work (those films which have grossed the highest receipts have always remained truest to his original story), and second, we now have the CGI technology to make the thing WORK. Marg Helgenberger strolling around over the tops of some buried boxes, covered with dirt, is hardly the 300+ diameter craft described in King's book, and I would dearly love to see that craft coming up out of the ground as King described it. If King had complete creative control over the script, if serious and thoughtful consideration went into the casting, and an outstanding director signed on, I think it would nothing less than be mind-blowing.

When I saw the topic I had this yearning for the kind of technology that was in the movie. I was thinking " Awesome they have a make me telepathic machine!!" and then it was about the CGI and I was like "I am so gullible" but yeah as far as the first go at Tommy knockers is concerned that ia another tv movie that scared the crap out of me. and really it's just the once scene with the guy sitting at the desk looking haggard with green pulsing light all about. That was all it took to make me loose sleep when i was a kid.

Agreed! I recently finished this book up and thought I got "lucky" since it happened to come on TV within a week of me finishing the book. I said "Thank you, Universe!" until I watched the first 5 minutes.

I never finished the movie and we deleted it without giving it a second thought. I spent too much time being angry at HOW MUCH they changed and it was just unacceptable to me(why change Ruth's last name???? Grrr.) and kept thinking about the newer movie technology and how it would blow that previous adaptation out of the proverbial water. This movie needs redone, the story deserves justice and whomever made the first one needs a good kick in the pants for wrecking it the way they did.
