    Default The Modern Kamikaze

It would appear that scientists at the University of Akron in Ohio have discovered a way to neutralise hurricanes before they can cause massive damage and disruption to the USA mainland.

This involves flying supersonic jet fighters directly into the eye of the hurricane, with the sonic boom produced causing the internal air pressure to rise, disrupting the upward flow of warm air which powers the hurricane, and effectively bringing the storm to an end.

The potential benefits to those parts of the USA which are most frequently affected would be substantial. Finding qualified pilots who might be willing to consider this career path, however, could be tricky!

Cool, I'm curious to see if it actually works.

    Hi,

Couldn't this be achieved by a pilotless drone?

    Or a missile?

    Long days and pleasant nights

My thoughts exactly. Drone that storm into nothing. What are the consequences though? I mean doesn't that make for a righteous Micheal Criton style plot point? Let's sell weather to other contries once we have developed a method to defend the Gulf of Mexico. Yay!

Would it be necessary for the kamikaze pilot to yell "God save Florida!" and then hollar "Bonsai!" just before he put the pedal to the metal?

    j/k

This would be a true Godsend for those of us who live in hurricane prone areas.

I'm wondering if it's possible to get a plane past the speed of sound in such conditions. It will take an awful lot of power
