    Default Gobbledegook poll

Hm, this isn't a poll, but it is about one (and I hope I post this where it should be):

"Former US president George W Bush topped a poll of the worst examples of mangled English, followed closely by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Donald Rumsfeld."

    It's a fun read

Anyway, why I started this thread was to ask you..what are your funniest examples of mangled/misunderstood English?

One recent one happened in school, when wegave examples of Swedish traditional food to a Tanzanian exchange student..We've got this thing called "kroppkaka" that a teacher tried to explain in English:

"We eat bodycake!** It's like..A pie, with flesh in it!"***

    **'Kropp' = body, directly translated.
*** ...he meant 'meat', but flesh is translated to the same word over here.

Poor thing. She looked so terrified. I would have been to. (but it was a morbid and hilarious moment)

Come on now..A laugh brightens up the day!;D

I have a large contingent of Filipino family members. My wifes uncle, a navy man, married into thier family. When his daughter was young, around 2 years old or so, the American family members would speak to her and call her pet names like "pookie". Pheonetically that word sounds like the Philipino slang for femal private parts... The babe's Filipina grand mother was horrified, and there was much screeching involved.

Now it's just a funny story we retell at the holidays. Unfortunatly Daniel, the two year old mentioned above, is now all of 13 years old. She doesn't like the story any more.
