    Default Essential reading for teens.

Listening to my nine year old grand daughter talk about the developing relationships with girls at school, and being pretty anxious about the way things seem to be going with this generation of kids, maybe schools should consider making Carrie compulsary reading in High School. It covers the bullying thing but also warns of the dangerous side of fundimental approaches to religion when they become fanatical or ridgid. Just a thought !:

I think that would be a pretty good idea. It would be good, and students would get something out of it.

Don't ya think that his criticism of (certain aspects of) religion is one of the things that gets him banned wherever intolerant rigid people have control over young peoples' reading? Not saying I disagree with you, mind ye...

    We all float down here.

I tried to say this to other people before, but they said "no, we don't want to offend anyone" What is offending about that? it was based from 2 suicides that stephen King knew the girls.

I agree! I would love to just shove copies of this book into girls hands when they hit middle school (actually, starting in elementary school unfortunately) and say, "Think about this book anytime you start to tease someone else." But I think that there would be parents for sure that would have issues with it being required reading, so I don't think it will ever happen.

I think it would be a brilliant idea!
it covers important issues, with an alternative twist!
Even if it isn't a compulsory read, all teenagers read it for it's sheer brilliance

Totally agree! This was the first SK novel I ever read so it was at least 3 years ago and I'm 16 now
I felt so sorry for Carrie at the end that I cried at a book for the first time, and I know a couple of people who are a little like Chris... but I'm pretty sure they aren't quite as extreme as she was. I don't know what he was thinking when he threw it away, Stephen King wrote this book beautifully
