    Wink Under the Dome...Outstanding

I have to say that I am a King fan from waaaaaay back! My all time favorite novel is 'The Stand'. I have read the thing 5 times and I still learn new things from it. I bought the copy from my bookstore (I have worked for Borders Group for about 25 years) when it was released in the uncut edition in 1990. I took the chance of writing to Mr, King and he did do me the honor of signing my copy! I love it!!!
What i wanted to say is that i have been reading an ARC of Under The Dome and it is by far one of the BEST things I have read in a long time. I think that it might just replace the stand as my favortie. You know a book is good when you are reading it and talking out loud to the pages!! Great characters and let me tell you the villians are the best "love to hate" you will ever read. I am on page 634 and I am reading SLOW so I can savor it. If you read this post Mr. King, I hope you would consider signing just 1 more of my all time favorite books. It is Outstanding....Thank you for the ride..... Old Timer @ Borders Express

Glad you're liking it. No spoilers, though--don't want to ruin it for those who have to wait to read it.

I'm on page 327 so far. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get into it, that I may have to struggle to get through to the good part. But, in all honesty, it's all been good. I'm loving the characters (and hating the ones we're meant to), the the antagonism between the characters builds up well, there are some secrets around town some which are stated, others which are hinted at for now.

It really does feel as though he's on top form, especially the way he has handled introducing a new town and all the characters in it. He handles this just as well as he did in The Stand all those years ago, in fact, it feels as though it could have been written around that time if it weren't for references to email and ipods, etc.

So, pretty hard to talk about it without spoiling anything, plus I still have a lot to read so I'm sure there is plenty I do not know yet. All in all, so far, it's a solid read, King does look like he's on top form and this does stand a good chance of being right up there as one of fans' favourites.

    hey drewsnana1

Are there any parts in the book where they explain why the people can't just dig a tunnel under the dome?

that was my first idea when i thought of the book, and hoping it isnt an obvious plothole that isnt mentioned in the book. I can't wait to read it.

I, too, am about halfway through this wonderful book (ARC, thanks to my husband working for one of the big-box booksellers). I'm pleased to note that Mr. King originally started writing this many years ago, as I said to myself upon starting it that it seemed very "old-school Stephen King." It definitely hearkens back to some of his earlier works. No spoilers, I promise, but true fans won't be disappointed.

I finished this last night, only took 6 days of reading to get through which, for me, is the fastest I've gotten through a book this size.

It has instantly shot up to second place in my favourite King book, behind It and is easily the best book I have read this year.

My unemployed, impoverished life is pretty dull of late. To say that I am eagerly anticipating this book would be something of an understatement. Fortunately, I was the first person, back on May 30th, to put in a request for it at my local library, so will get to be the first one there to read it. I'm thrilled that its so long, but it will probably take me less than a week to devour it, alas. My wife will then read it, too.
