    Default The company picnic

This is for all those who have the company picnic..Well, at the place where I work it is not an option to attend the company picnic...IT is called "mandatory fun day"...(Okay pause and think about that phrase for a second.) You are not allowed to invite your family members and it is only excused if you have a note from your doctor...This year's event..we went putt putt golfing(supposed to be team building exercise). Some of the staff got really bad sunburn and the other half looked like they could just fall asleep...So anyone else have those "company picnic" stories?

What an awful-sounding idea. The closest I have come to that is a 'required Xmas staff dinner' at a previous job. I have food allergies and can't even eat the food. They made us go out to a restaurant with a nasssssssty cheap buffet, wished us a Merry Christmas (in January) and told us they were closing down the business in April/May. No family was allowed to come to the dinner. I was required to go even though they KNEW I would be sitting there unable to partake. It was horrible.

LOL @ "mandatory fun day." That is classic Office Space stuff.

I hate company events like that. Even if they're not mandatory, you feel like you have to go. Except, wait ... I never go. So I guess I'm sabotaging my career, one missed painful and awkward gathering at a time.

The odd thing is I am a people person and always like the people I work with. I just don't enjoy forced socialization.

Mandatory fun day? Sounds dreadful--sorry you have to go.

Although we could have a nonmandatory SKMB picnic if we want.

I have to confess.. This mandatory fun day reminds me too much of the movie office space...If you have not had a chance to view this movie..It is hilarious!!

Yea, my company is about the same. Last time they took us out to the desert of a gyps, which sounds fun enough, but I hate the desert and then it got very cold and the guide lost the way and here we were, 120 people who haven't left their computer screen in years, all covered in sand with freezing wind blowing as night fell, starved and really not properly dressed for the whole deal.
It was such a nightmarish experience that I was almost happy when they informed us this year that due to the economic situation the company Mandatory Fun Trip is postponed.
