Default Elmo talks about tough times

I caught this one on the news the other day. Sesame street's Elmo's mommy lost her job. He talks about how this affects the family and his life. I thought it was a great thing. A lot of kids don't understand why things are tough, but Elmo seemed to do a good job of explaining.

Elmo's such a sweetie-pie isn't he? I didn't like him at first...I love my old Grover and all his silliness, but children respond to Elmo in an incredible way. I haven't seen the Elmo clip you're talking about, but anything to help children understand the ways of the world (as long as they're not too young to be confused or scared) is a good thing.

Grover! My little sister used to do the near/far thing when we were preteens/teenagers, and it always cracked me up. Next time I see her I'm going to beg her to do it.

"Near (stepstepstepstepstepstep) ... far (stepstepstepstepstepstep) ... near (stepstepstepstepstepstep) ... far (stepstepstepstepstepstep) ... near ..."

I can't get into Elmo, but you're right; kids love him, and it's good that they can get that explanation from him. Sesame Street was always pretty good about explaining adult stuff from a kid perspective. And it also taught us the very useful Spanish word "cuidado" (caution) and the fabulous songs "Chickens in the Trees" and "Five Bears in the Bed."

I have to admit when Elmo first made the sesame street scene was not a huge fan..But still love his tender spirit.
