Default Favourite short story from Night Shift?

I am currently reading Night Shift and I think this will turn out to be my favourite SK short story collection.
Up untill now my personal favourite there is Quitters.I am a smoker and this story was just pure horror for me.The Mangler also almost made me throw the book away.
I have a few more stories to go /I'll finish them tonight/,so I was wondering - does anyone else have personal favourites in this collection?

Hi! Yes, indeed I have several favorites from Night Shift. I loooove Grey Matter because it's really creepy. And I also really like Sometimes They Come Back and One for the Road. Night Shift is a really good collection and still igood reading all of these years later. Enjoy!

It is very tough to choose just one favorite. This collection has so many great, spooky stories. One of my personal favorites is I Know What You Need. This story really creeps me out! I also like The Boogeyman even though this story scares me most of all because I have 2 small children. The Man Who Loved Flowers and Strawberry Spring are also great.

(I tried to pick stories that are not very well known. For instance: Children of The Corn, The Mangler and Quitters Inc.)

There are many incredible stories on that book. I like "Jerusalem's Lot", because 'Salems Lot is one of my favorite SK books. I also love "Children of the Corn" (wow what a classical!) and "Strawberry Spring". "The Last Rung on the Ladder" isn't even horror and it still makes me feel all cold and hot inside. Not sure why but this story touches me, maybe because I have 4 brothers of my own and am familiar with that notion of trusting them with my eyes closed.

I knew I had read this short story somewhere, but couldn't recall what book.
Must find copy of Night Shift as it will be like reading for the first time. Thanks so much for reminding me, by the way yeah Quitters is terrific.

My favorite by far is The Boogeyman. This story really creeped me out the first time I read it, and I was in high school at the time. Now that I'm married and have two young kids I find it terrifying.

"Strawberry Spring", for sure. Though I'd call "One for the Road" a great second choice, for me...

Such a fine collection--and don't you just dig the Norm D. MacDonald intro? When I was 13, this was a paperback that I carried around in my pocket for the whole year...there's an introductory piece on Captain Trips, and a pre-adolescent Naturalist cult trapped by a demigod known as "He Who Walks Beyond the Rows," and two (2) sad, beautiful tales of Normal Life Gone Awry: "The Last Rung on the Ladder" and "The Woman in the Room" are both quite good, considering when and how they were written...no?

    Okay,

I'm surprised you said that you almost threw the book away because of The Mangler. There's so many classics it's hard to choose, but I guess I'll go with The Mangler. I love that lil' old laundry press.
