Default What was the first SK book you read and how old were you?

So, yeah, simple question and I'm sure one which has already been asked at one point, but I'm new.

The first SK book I read was 'IT' at the tender age of 10. My parents are both avid SK readers and I grew up in a home full of books. The Stephen King books were quite rightly kept at the top of a very tall bookcase so that I couldn't get to them - I was big reader even as a kid and wanted to read the books my parents did.

So, I can thank Stephen King for my horrendous phobia of balloons (I can't even be in the same room as them), dislike of clowns and the fact that I can't use bubble bath because I need to be able to see the plughole in the bath/shower. Scarred at a young age!

I know we've had this type of thread before but I could not find it with a quick search so have allowed it again.

My first was Cujo. I was about 13. A neighbor gave me a box of old books which happened to also contain half a dozen works by Mr. King. One empty summer afternoon I cast about for new reading material and decided to give Cujo a try. What a beautiful journey it's been since then.

Carrie when it came out, think I was about 12 or so. Enjoyed it, but it didn't make me a fan for life. That happened when I stumbled on Salem's Lot a few years later.

Hearts in Atlantis, age 21. And 42 novels and countless short stories by SK later, I'm still a raving fan!

I remember a similar thread too.

My first SK book was Pet Sematary and I was 11. Scared the crap out of me. I donated it to the library though b/c back then I didn't think of saving my books and starting a collection/mini-library.

My first Stephen King book was It, but I was 19 and in high school. I was always a fan of SK movies, (especially It) but everyone kept telling to read his books, they were way better. So I read It and I have been reading SK ever since.

I am also scared to death of balloons. (I can't even see them on TV without flinching) At birthday parties I refuse to have balloons. If I go to a public place and it has balloons, I leave.
