    Default Audio Books

Can anyone tell me which are the best Stephen King audio books out there?

I've already (nearly) read everything, and I'm looking at ducking into a new medium.

Any help would be most appreciated...

My favorite King audio book is Dolores Claiborne, read by Frances Sternhagen. She IS Dolores!

My favorites are Bag of Bones and The Shining. The first for the creepy music that sets the mood and the second for Campbell Scott my favorite audiobook reader. Mr Scott also did Cell but I didn't really like that book all that much, he was great though.

I picked up BLOOD & SMOKE and L.T's THEORY OF PETS (mostly on the strength that Sai King reads both).

I'm highly anticipating the listening experience.

Steve reads quite a few of his own books, among them:
    Bag Of Bones
    Needful Things
    On Writing
and of course numerous short stories....

Hearing him read On Writing is great - who better to tell you the story of his journey.

Insomnia read by Eli Wallach is also one of my favorites along with each & every other one.

Talisman & Black House read by Frank Muller are probably the epitome of audio books.

This came up in a separate thread, but for the benefit of those that didn't see...

The 3D surround version of The Mist is fantastic. It's presented in a dramatic, theatrical performance with awesome sound effects. It's like listening to an old radio program. Headphones make the experience even better. Highly recommended.

I posted a thread last night asking the very same question, but I wanted to know which ones King read himself in their entirety. The only one that I have, and truly love is LT'S THEORY OF PETS. To hear him and the audience interact is wonderful!!!!

You aren't the first person to have said that.

Now I'm really excited to hear it!

Of the ones I've listened to, and I listen to tons of audio books, here are the best so far.

The Dark Tower series, both readers in this series were absolutely the best narrators I have listened to on audiobook, handling the characters voices and accents with great flair. Odetta really comes to life in Drawing of the Three. If you have read this series numerous times, a listen to the books will open up a whole new perspective on the world.

    The Green Mile

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption-Sounding almost like Morgan Freeman himself

    It-Everyone comes to life

Carrie-Read by Sissy Spacek, hence brilliant

    The Body

Frank Muller and George Guidall are brilliant narrators, any work with them on should be thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm currently listening to Salem's Lot which I am enjoying so far.

The Stand (uncut) which I have, I do not know the narrator, was a fairly good listen, the main gripe I had was that he didn't do a good job with the female characters. Instead of trying to put on a softer voice or something else, he decides that sounding a bit simple is the best way to portray Franny.

I have the fist 3 Dark Tower books on cassette read by Sai King himself but I now have no cassette player to listen to them on Of course I have all of them on CD as well and Frank Muller was the greatest reader of audiobooks ever IMHO. George Guidall is ok but not even close to the late, great Mr Muller! or Sai King himself for that matter.
