Very true. But the cover artwork is very nice, and is a shame to miss out on it. On second thought, the UK coverart isn't anywhere as near as nice as the US one.
Yeah, I saw all the UK ones on eBay. Bizarre that they aren't even waiting for Waterstones to sell out, and that people aren't looking for the source.
My copy has shipped now. Excellent!
This is the description I received from Hodder regarding their limited edition:
COLLECTOR'S SET: SIGNED LIMITED EDITION & CARDS
STEPHEN KING
UNDER THE DOME
Limited edition book signed by the author with deluxe binding, splicase, coloured endpapers and a set of 27 trading cards illustrated by Matthew Diffee
£100
It doesn't sound that much different from the Scribner edition, other than the slipcase. The reason there were only 500 copies for the UK edition is because that's the amount Steve was willing to sign.

The UK edition does not include any dust jacket. (By the way, what's a splicase :-) ?)
One nice thing is that the slipcase has a separate compartment at the top for the cards.
The UK edition also does not include any of the interior drawings by Diffee, as do the two Scribner Collector's Sets.

I received mine. It's vastly different from the Scribner edition. Its a bit smaller, has no cover art or dust jacket, but it comes in a really terrific custom slipcase and has an actual limitation page, signed by Stephen and actually numbered out of 500. The Scribner edition, although limited to 1500, was unnumbered and simply signed on a blank piece of paper.
It may not sound like much of a difference, but to many collectors, this will definitely go down as the best edition of Under the Dome.
I have both, and I think that they are both different and equally valuable. It seems that at this moment, the S&S is more valuable. I do plan on buying a couple of slipcases from where jcahnic( the collector) is suggesting. Plus CD(cemetary dance) needs to buckle down and get their books out in a timely manner, or at least, dont take the money and sit on it for 4 years. In their defense, their books are quite nice and well done.
I don't believe it, mine turned up today, and I paid for the cheap surface shipping. I was expecting it in 11 weeks, which was how long the last surface mail shipment I had from the UK. I guess it got sent air
I don't want to open it though :O Maybe I'll put it away for Christmas
Having put an order with Waterstones but then missed out due to out of stock,I managed to get one elsewhere.I was tempted not to open mine, but then I read on a website that you have to be very careful with storage bearing in mind it is covered with plastic re damp etc and the associated problems with mould-apart from which no idea what the number could be,so it's been opened (and I've been blessed with a low number),now safely put away with the original plastic packaging.
Unlike a lot of previous Uk editions that were signed on paper that was attached to a book,UTD is flat signed on the title page together with the limited edition number --/500
Apparently a large proportion of the UK editions were damaged in transit, fortunately mine is fine-just make sure if you buy one read the descriptions before you commit to the purchase if you want a pristine copy.
