Thumbs up Re: Book vs. Movie

    Book vs Movie:

When I see a movie ad that looks interesting, I look for the book---I did that with "The Godfather" and "Lonesome Dove", ie. I saw a recent ad for a movie, "The Time Traveler's Wife"---got the book.

Here is the difference. To get the story is like picking meat from a chicken neck with a toothpick. Half way through the first chapter, I still don't know where it's headed. With Stephen King, it grabs you by the neck in the first few paragraphs and pulls you into the story, where you will stay until the last word on the last page. Then you, greedily read the Afterward, hoping for a few whiffs more.

    Any disagree?

I've never been disappointed from a book, even if I have seen the movie first. I have though been disappointed from movies based on books. Numerous times. I guess the ultimate proof of books superiority (yes, I know, there are exceptions, but these just prove my point) is that movies are almost always based on books, and not the other way around. They simply tell the story better and are not limited by any budget consideration or popularity of a specific actor.

As for me, I prefer reading books (but unfortunately, sometimes there is no time to read a book and then it's easier to watch a movie).
I like good movies and I like good books. But I prefer to read a book first and then to watch the movie on which it's based, because if I watch a movie first and then I decide to read the story, I often get disappointed, because a movie often doesn't reflect the atmosphere of the book. Besides, when you read a book you imagine everything by yourself and somehow you create your own world around the story.
So, to my mind, it's very interesting to read books. And I prefer to read a book and then, if I like the story, to watch the movie based on it.

I'm not an Anne Rice reader either, they just don't grab me, I did like the movies though.

You should reverse your procedure , title of movie go to library , read and then watch the movie. Although , i believe you will be disappointed as most movies leave out a good portion of a book.

I love movies but I prefer books. I don't have a TV in my bathroom yet.

    Hi,

    Aye, indeed.

I'm a very fast reader but I don't read a book in two hours.

I believe that movies (most, but not all) are storytelling for people with no imagination.

    Long days and pleasant nights
