haven't seen the original movie in years, but i hope they do this right. there are many parts in the book that really got to me, such as . those instances really got to me and i'd like to see them translated onto film.
never actually watched the whole movie all the way through. Not because it was too frightening, just because there are some movies you never finish for random reasons. The book was positively terrifying. It's hard to do that kind of irrational utter terror justice in film format. I might just say it's the most terrifying thing I've read. Shining comes close, though. When you read something that has the power to make you think twice before going to the bathroom in the middle of the night for fear of the bathtub not being quite empty, you know you're in Kingsland.
I digressed, shoot me.
I've always been a bit conflicted by this movie....as a horror movie it's damn creepy but for me it hits a little bit too close to the bone. I've got it in my collection but I won't watch it again. The remake of 'Salems Lot & The Shining were both better than the original imho, for me mainly because I preferred the casting in the remakes, and I don't think they'll be able to replace Fred Gwynne with anyone better as Jed.
